Quotes

  • Tae on her Condition
before the December Surgery on the Inverted papilloma:
“...I don't really care how it is, but in the doctor's room, I felt that God was, and is with me and will be with me no matter what, and that if so, than let His will be done, he still has my purpose tucked in his arm safely”

Summarizing 5 surgeries in 12 months
“I would also describe the year (2005) as a blessing and a challenge, but I'm up for it. Time has brought each of us together; faith has done the impossible, support has shaped me, love has given me all the things I asked for, Hope…makes me stronger”

9 May Update - Saturday Update - Afternoon with Spacifix

Tae is struggling again this morning with "head-spinning" headaches and pains in back and her belly. I noticed earlier in the week a slight yellow tint on the skin which is a sign the liver may be going. Its been a tough week with all movement on both feet gone - even the toes although she says she can feel certain sensations. Despite that, we've managed one long wheelchair ride into town and a stopover at a cafe for a milkshake, she also enjoyed an hour being driven around just seeing people and chatting about things. Moving Tae in and out of her wheelchair now takes 2 people and a lot of care with several "no touch" painful areas. She still insists however on the opportunity to sit up and move around the moment she feels she can handle it.

Exciting New Zealand band, SPACIFIX visited this afternoon and shared a couple of hours with us. Despite the difficult morning, Tae made sure she was waiting on the recliner when Tau and the band arrived. After initial introductions, they listened to Walk Strong played on the stereo then shared their incredible music. It was a fantastic time for Tae as well as family and friends who were here. The music and just the positive attitude from the Pacifix team seemed to lift Tae  as she insisted on singing a song with Mia and talking with the guys.  This was followed by them signing their CDs and Tae's guitar  - Tae and Mia signed the Spacifix Guitar :-) ..... Spacifix have agreed to work on a possible release of "Walk on Walk Strong" in New Zealand with funds going to helping improve the situation for Pacific cancer kids through a Tae Kami Foundation. Thanks guys for making time on your crowded agenda to spend time with us on a Saturday afternoon - We loved it and Tae, Mia, Joy, Valeti and the kids here think you ROCK!

Last night, the King of Tonga, HM King George V, hosted a fundraising concert in one of his residences. Tenor Jack Bourke and a string quartet & pianist from New Zealand, entertained for 2 hours before a
$20,000 (Tongan Dollars) check was donated to the Child Cancer Society of Tonga.  Unfortunately, Tae was too sick to make it but the evening of beautiful music ended with a CD of Tae singing Walk on Walk Strong over the stereo.  We were surprised when the King stood up during the song, to meet Tae to find she was not there - but a wonderful evening and we are glad that some real funding was made available for other cancer kids here in the Kingdom.

Yesterday, the Tongan provincial rugby team, Tautahi Gold, beat Fiji Barbarians - 20 to 0. Its the biggest win of any team in the competition. Tae's song, "Walk on, Walk Strong" was played before the game and every time they scored! Tautahi has comitted their 3 nation tournament to Tae.

We count our blessings to still have this time with Tae and thankful for the prayers and support.
