Tae's Birthday TODAY. This will be her 2nd birthday celebration up there with the angels. Also her best friend Mota 'Atiola who shares the same b-day with Tae....
HAPPY BIRTHDAY TAE AND MOMOTA!
Last year we celebrated her 16th birthday here in Suva, Fiji at the McDonald with the children from the Cancer Society here in Suva. This year we will do the same by visiting some of the children with cancer in the Suva area. It was her dream to celebrate every year with the kids who are still on the journey with cancer and we will continue to do that.
I will be meeting today with the doctors at children hospital ward at Suva, representative from the Cancer Society to discuss the way forward for a resource center for the Cancer kids here in Suva, Fiji. This was one of Tae's dream for Tonga to have a resource room there, which we are still waiting for reply from the Minsitry of Health in Tonga. We also found that it's not just Tonga who need a house or center for cancer kids but also here in Fiji. So am hoping that we can all work together, The Walk On Walk Strong team in Suva, Ministry of Health, Fiji and Cancer Society, to have a resource center for our children with cancer and their families.
We are currently planning the Walk on Walk Strong Events for 2010, for Tonga and Fiji. There was an interest from Samoa and NZ to have the Walk there this year. We will keep you posted.
Last year we started the Tae Kami Scholarship fund with a help of our friend from Hawaii. For 2009, 6 students from Queen Salote College, Tonga received the scholarship. They were Litia Vaeatangitau and Juliett Mila both in Form 7, Kesaia Tonu in Form 6, Diploma Toluta'u Form 5 , Sela Ngahe and Hulita Fakasi'i'eiki both in F.4. All these 6 students PASSED their last year exams and the overall report from the school were all good. We are also doing the same thing this year as that was one of Tae's wish to help the girls at her school ... especially those who need support for their education. Congratulations to all the girls and wishing them all the best for 2010! WE are hoping that one day the fund will be able to support students from other schools too but at the moment we are funding it ourselves with our friend from Hawaii.
As for the girls, 'Amelia and Joy, they are both doing well and enjoying school . Taholo is still working with the IUCN Oceania and is at the Solomon Island for a meeting this week. As for myself.. I am back at school, doing MBA part time at USP. Our 6 years old, Joy asked me "why are you going back to school mum?... is that mean you will be in class one?" I feel like I am in class one.. after all those years of being away from class rooms... But am enjoying it!
Happy Birthday again Tae and to you Mota!
We love you!
