NUKU’ALOFA - January 12, 2012. The Tae Kami Foundation has contributed a donation of $1000 and a wheelchair to the Child Cancer Foundation of Tonga in support of the CCFT Resource Center. The cheque and wheelchair were presented to representatives of the CCFT by Sina Kami at the family home in Kolomotu’a. This donation follows an initial donation of $13,000 made in 2009 / 2010 both in aid of the Child Cancer Resource Center opened by the CCFT in Fanga ‘o Pilolevu this year.
The Tae Kami Foundation was established in 2009 with the purpose of fulfilling young cancer victim, Tae Kami’s dreams. This includes raising funds to support children with cancer via a resource center, establishing a fund for supporting cancer treatment, provide scholarships for secondary school children and eventually, a children’s hospital.
The Tae Kami Foundation raises funds through various activities organised by the WOWS (Walk on Walk Strong) group which include walks, sales of WOWS memorabilia, corporate sponsorships and Christmas carols.
The Tae Kami Foundation has confirmed that further fundraising activities are scheduled for 2012 to assist in the establishment of a WOWS Medical Fund for Child Cancer and will include a ‘Shave It or Save It’ campaign which raised $170,000 in Fiji last year.
WOWS activities have taken on a regional aspect with activities conducted in Fiji for two years now and expressions of interest coming from Vanuatu, Samoa and Papua New Guinea.
The Tae Kami Foundation was set up in memory of Tae Kami who died of cancer in 2008 at the age of 15
